My (somewhat limited) social media feeds, email inboxes, and texts all blew up with people sending me the news that the Volkswagen group is thinking about making a new electric SUV called the Scout. It’s a long, convoluted story, but the Autopian breaks down how VW has come into possession of the Scout trademark through its purchase of Navistar after a colossal strategic mistake in building diesel engines.
Electric Scout?

I have had a similar experience with friends reaching out with the Scout news.
I feel like it would be a Scout in name only.
Still, it could be a cool vehicle. But I won’t be able to afford one of the new ones the s are way that I can’t afford one of the old ones.
However, if I had the $, I think I’d rather convert an original Scout that needed a replacement motor to Electric. A friend of mine here in Boston has embarked upon a journey to electrify an older Porsche 911, and I am intrigued by the process.

Yeah, I don’t think I’d ever consider buying another VW unless it was air-cooled and born in the same decade I was. Especially not an electric vehicle.
My friend Brian is making plans to electrify Slowlfake, his Scout 800 from a 4-cylinder ICE. I’ve been looking locally for another Scout to do the same with, but have struck out so far.
